Building permits are required for all new construction and for some home improvements. Construction changing the outside appearance may also require architectural approval through the homeowner association. Permits are required for the construction of a deck, gazebo, swimming pool, repaving or extending a driveway, driveway monuments, tennis courts, septic repair and other types of remodeling including basement, bonus room, and attic finishing. Permit applications are provided below. You may access the Municipal Code online.
The Guideline Document Library below will assist you in the permitting process. If you're not sure, call the Village Hall to determine if the work you are planning requires a permit. Getting a permit is one way to assure that the work done in your home meets the building codes and specifications. If work is done in and around your home without a permit and it is determined that one is required, there may be fines and penalties.
Call JULIE at either 811 or 1-800-892-0123 if you are doing any digging.
