South Barrington Police personnel consist of a Chief, 1 Deputy Chief, 4 Sergeants, 1 Investigator, 10 full-time officers, 12 part-time officers, an administrative assistant, a records supervisor and an records clerk. The Department covers approximately 6.9 square miles of area and serves a population estimated at approximately 4,279 residents.

The South Barrington Police Department is dispatched by the Quadcom Dispatch Center, which is located in Carpentersville. Quadcom serves five police departments and four fire departments.

POLICE SERVICES AVAILABLE FOR RESIDENTS
Homeowner Association Liaison Officer (HALO) The South Barrington Police Department has assigned each subdivision an officer that is a point of contact for those residents. The officers regularly attend the association meetings and can be contacted for non-emergency situations that are not in progress. The officers work with the residents to resolve issues within the subdivision such as speeding, criminal damage, juvenile issues, and more.
Housewatch Program
Planning your next vacation or business trip? One important step in that process should be to notify the police department that you will be away from home by completing a Housewatch Request Form. Doing so alerts patrol officers to your home’s unoccupied status so that they may conduct periodic checks of the perimeter and verify that there is nothing unusual occurring on or about your premises. Please note that checks are performed as manpower, call volume, and time constraints permit. This program is meant to enhance existing security measures you should have in place, such as an alarm system, it in no way should be your only line of defense while away.
Housewatch forms may be obtained at the police department or downloaded here. Completed forms may be dropped off, mailed, or faxed to the department. Be prepared to supply dates you will be gone, phone number of a person to contact in case of an emergency, description of vehicles left in the driveway and location of lights that are on timers.
Fingerprinting
Fingerprinting is available for your children for identification purposes. The department also fingerprints residents for licensing and passports when required by law.
Child Passenger Safety Program
The South Barrington Police Department has trained officers who have completed a 32-hour training class as Child Passenger Safety Seat Technicians.As a public safety department, we receive calls with questions and requests for help with installation of car seats.National averages indicate that 80% of Child Safety Seats are installed incorrectly. The inspection includes looking at the child in the seat upon arrival to evaluate how the child fits in the seat.We ask questions about the child (age, weight, height) to verify that the seat is appropriate for the child.The seat is then checked for proper installation.The technician uses the inspection as an education time.The technician records the model number and date of manufacture and checks recall information on the seat.The technician explains and demonstrates installation of the seat.The seat owner then completes the installation on their own.The child is placed back in the seat to confirm proper fit and the inspection is concluded.We encourage people to read the instruction manual for the seat and the owner's manual for the vehicle and bring it to the inspection.The average inspection takes 30 minutes and can last up to 90 minutes.A two minute checklist is provided to everyone at the time of the inspection.Additional child safety seat information can be found on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website at www.nhtsa.dot.govor the Automotive Safety Program website at www.preventinjury.org.
If you are interested in scheduling an appointment with a certified child safety seat technician, please call the South Barrington Police Department, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm.Inspections are done by appointment only and done for South Barrington residents ONLY. Appointments are preferred and we are available during the times listed above.A limited number of appointments are available in the evening hours and on weekends.
Ride-Along Program
The South Barrington Police Department currently operates a Ride-Along Program that enables residents 18 and over to ride along with an officer on patrol. In order to ride along with an officer, individuals must complete a waiver of liability. Waivers are available at the South Barrington Police Department and must be completed and returned so that car and patrol assignments can be made. Residents who are interested in participating in the Ride Along Program are invited to stop by the South Barrington Police Department, 30 South Barrington Road, for more information. Information is also available by calling the station at (847) 381-7511 and asking for the shift supervisor.
Gun Locks
The South Barrington Police Department provides free gun locks to all residents requesting assistance in securing their firearms. The gun lock program was started in order to help reduce the likelihood of a tragic accident with a firearm, especially those involving children. You will be asked to complete a form so please bring your FOID card with you.
